My art has a lot to do with social issues. I find that once a neighborhood has one or two boarded-up houses in plain view things change. One’s pride for one’s neighborhood starts to diminish, and crime starts to climb since others know no one is going to tell them to get off their property since no one lives there. Things like drug dealing and prostitution move in. I’m trying to address these issues along with bringing art and beauty back to the neighborhood. To create my art I take pictures of doors and windows. I then take those images and have them made into life-size posters. Those are then wheat pasted to the boards covering the door or windows of the vacant house. But this is not a permanent solution to the problem, and as time passes the images will rip and fade back into the boarded-up house.
